Actor Dhanush has officially committed to play the lead in a biopic based on the life of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the former 11th President of India. The film has been titled ‘Kalam’.
The biographical movie aims to highlight significant phases of Abdul Kalam’s inspiring journey — from his humble beginnings to becoming a key figure in Indian science and politics. The film was formally announced at the Cannes Film Festival.
The screenplay for ‘Kalam’ is penned by Saiwyn Quadras, known for acclaimed biopics like Neerja and Maidaan. The project will be directed by Om Raut, who previously helmed the film Adipurush.
Director Om Raut expressed that in a time when true statesmen were rare, Kalam stood apart as a person beyond politics, celebrated for his passion for education, innovation, and national development. Bringing his story to the screen, he described, is both an artistic challenge and a moral responsibility.
Raut added that Kalam’s life story is a powerful message for young people around the world, especially youth in South India, and called the film one of the most meaningful projects of his career.
