Suicide cases are increasing at an alarming rate among the young crowd, especially among students in educational institutes. On Friday, a student died due to suicide at IIT Madras according to the police. The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Kedar Suresh, a second-year BTech.
The shocking fact is that this is the fourth suicide in the last 3 months on campus. Suresh was staying in Cauvery Hostel, where his friend and warden noticed that his room is locked for hours and informed the police. As per the reports, the cops broke open the door and found him hanging from a ceiling fan. A case has been registered by the Kotturpuram police.
Three such student suicides took place at IIT Madras earlier this year. Following the rapid increase in student suicides, the management arranged an awareness session for the students on April 19. The IIT has launched the programme to increase awareness of Mental Health. The students can feel free to address and mitigate stress with the help of the administration.
