Woman paraded half-naked, witch-hunt ensures after complaint

In Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi, a young woman was on Saturday evening stripped and thrashed half-naked on the streets by a few unidentified men after having an argument with her husband.  She reportedly refused to be eve-teased by the culprits.

The shameful incident happened in Raipuri village when the savage miscreants barged into the victim’s home and disrobed her.  She somehow staged an escape from their grip.  Following this, the miscreants chased her and assaulted her whenever they could in the streets.  As it happens in films, the woman sought help from strangers, only to be turned away by closed doors, literally!  

She approached police later in the day.  Earlier, they told her to keep silent and compromise.  However, someone had shot the video of the incident.  When it went viral, there arose outrage.  Following this, the police have registered a case. On Sunday, a medical examination was conducted on the woman.  So far, a  person has been arrested.  

On Monday, fresh reports say that the victim’s relatives have been threatened with dire consequences by unknown individuals.  One of them has been attacked with acid.  They have complained about a witch-hunt.
