Why Maheshs heroine bid goodbye to Tollywood

When Mahesh Babu's 'Athidhi' bombed at the box-office way back in 2007, its debutante heroine Amrita Rao was definitely in for trouble. But if you are thinking that the Bollywood actress failed to make a mark in Tollywood only because 'Athidhi' flopped, you are wrong. After the film's release, Amrita was offered quite a few films. But she didn't do them out of choice. There is a reason and it's not flattering at all.

In her latest interview, Amrita says that she didn't want to do Telugu movies as the writers and directors here reduced female lead roles to objectification and items of desire. "I was not inclined to do such roles," Amrita avers.

This is the reason the beauty didn't work in Tollywood.

It's a sad commentary on Telugu cinema for sure. On the bright side, Tollywood has made some progress in the right direction since then.
