‘War 2’ Shows Strong Comeback on Day 2, Surpasses ‘Coolie’

After opening to mixed reviews and underwhelming Day 1 numbers, War 2—starring NTR and Hrithik Roshan—staged an unexpected turnaround on its second day at the box office. Despite harsh criticism from critics and audiences alike, the film avoided an early collapse and instead witnessed a remarkable surge, aided by the holiday factor.

On Day 2, War 2 even outpaced Rajinikanth’s Coolie in ticket sales across India, posting impressive collections that brought its two-day India gross to ?108 crore. The film also made its presence felt overseas, adding ?16 crore gross from the USA.

While its cumulative figure still trails behind Coolie’s record-breaking run, trade analysts point out that the upward trend indicates steady momentum. The production house YRF is reportedly eyeing an additional ?60–80 crore over the weekend, which could push War 2’s opening weekend total to ?150–160 crore.

However, one major concern remains—its lackluster performance in the Telugu states. Despite featuring NTR in his Bollywood debut, the film has struggled to attract audiences in his home market. In contrast, Coolie’s dubbed version managed to pull strong numbers, leaving fans and the production team slightly disappointed with War 2’s regional reception.

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 not only marks NTR’s first Hindi film but also introduces him to YRF’s ambitious spy-universe franchise. With the coming weekend proving crucial, industry eyes are on whether the film can sustain its momentum and close the gap with Rajinikanth’s box office juggernaut.
