Haiku Gets Early Netflix Backing as Shoot Begins

Global OTT powerhouse Netflix, known for its discerning, content-first acquisitions alongside marquee star vehicles, has added another promising title to its slate. The platform has officially acquired the digital streaming rights to actor Aegan’s upcoming Tamil feature ‘Haiku’—notably before the film’s completion, signaling rare and strong confidence in the project.

Defying the industry’s usual post-theatrical evaluation model, the Netflix deal was sealed even as the film’s shoot commenced. Production began this morning (February 1, 2026) with traditional pooja ceremonies, making the early OTT acquisition a standout talking point across the industry.

The launch event took place at Idukki, Kerala, where acclaimed filmmaker Ram—celebrated for films like Peranbu and Taramani—gave the inaugural clap and extended his best wishes to the team, marking an auspicious start.

‘Haiku’ is directed by Yuvaraj Chinnasamy and produced by Dr. D. Arulanandhu and Mathew Arulanandhu under the Vision Cinema House banner. The film also benefits from an additional screenplay by Hari Haran Ram, who previously helmed the critically acclaimed Joe.

The technical crew brings proven expertise to the table: Priyesh Guruswamy serves as Director of Photography, Sakthi Pranesh handles editing, and Vijai Bulganin—known for his impactful music in Court and Baby—composes the soundtrack.

Leading the cast is Aegan, recognized for his performances in Joe and Kozhi Pannai Chelladurai. He is joined by Femina George (Minnal Murali, Sesham Mike-il Fathima) and Sridevi Apalla (Court) as the female leads.
