Even as the outrage over the death of the Unnao rape victim is yet to subside, another shocking report from Unnao's Hindupur village has surfaced.
A cop had allegedly refused to file a woman's complaint of attempted rape, asking her to come back with the complaint after the rape had taken place. "Rape toh hua nahi, jab hoga tab aana (Rape has not happened, come when it happens)," the policeman told the woman, according to a report from a news agency. The woman has alleged that three men had attempted to rape her when she was on her way to buy medicines. "After the incident, I called 1090 (women helpline) and they asked me to Dial 100 but they asked me to report the matter to Unnao police. They come to my house every day and threaten me with dire consequences if I file a complaint," the woman reportedly stated.
Following the incident, Unnao Superintendent of Police Vikrant Veer reportedly said, "We have taken cognizance of the issue and I have personally met the victim and heard all her allegations. The charge sheet in the case has been put on hold and further investigation has been ordered. A departmental inquiry has been ordered against the investigating officer in this case."
