Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader and actor Vijay has released a video lasting over 9 minutes on his official X account, sharply criticizing the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. The video has attracted lakhs of viewers within a few hours of its release and has created a storm on social media.

In the video, Vijay begins by stating, “Today in Tamil Nadu, not everyone has the right to vote,” and warns that due to the SIR process, lakhs of voters are at risk of losing their fundamental right. “This is not intimidation; it’s the truth. A small mistake, and lakhs like us could face this situation,” he says. With 6.36 crore voters in Tamil Nadu, Vijay points out that the short-term verification (within 30 days) conducted through Booth Level Officers (BLOs) is insufficient and will lead to confusion.

The SIR has been introduced by the Election Commission in Tamil Nadu and a few other states to rectify the electoral rolls. However, Vijay criticizes it as a ‘dangerous’ process that quietly strips voting rights. In particular, he alleges that SIR forms are not being provided to TVK members, calling it political bias. “Voting right is the certificate of our life. We must not lose it,” he emphasizes.

The video, released on X with hashtags like #MyVoteMyLife and #TVKForTN, has gone viral, garnering over 75 lakh views. Many praise Vijay’s explanation as ‘simple and understandable to everyone.’ At the same time, some criticize it as ‘political propaganda.’

As a follow-up, TVK has organized a large-scale protest against SIR across Tamil Nadu tomorrow (November 16). Vijay urges voters to verify their names in the electoral rolls: “Your vote is your life!”

This video has created a new wave in Tamil Nadu politics. Vijay’s awareness campaign is expected to play a major role in protecting voters’ rights.
