A man in Tamil Nadu's Tirunelveli hacked his wife to death and then surrendered before the police on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as Sorimuthu, is a construction worker in Kerala. He hails from the Kurichikulam village near Thalaiyuthu in Tirunelveli. While working in Kerala, he met and fell in love with Ramlath and later got married to her. The couple shifted back to Sorimuthu's village, where she gave birth to her two children. Sorimuthu returned to Kerala soon after, while Ramlath and the children stayed behind in Kurichikulam. The woman started having an affair with another man in her village, which Sorimuthu's relatives came to know about. They informed him about the same and locked Ramlath inside the house. However, she managed to escape. When Sorimuthu returned to Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, he went to the Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital to get a Covid-19 test, where he found Ramlath. He allegedly hacked her to death while returning to their house and surrendered before the police the next day.
According to the police, Ramlath reportedly suffered 3 cuts on her neck during the attack. A case has been registered against the accused under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
