A 55-year-old woman in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvannamalai was ready to be discharged from a government hospital after she tested negative for Covid-19 twice, but passed away due to a sudden cardiac arrest, apparently after her blood pressure shot up.
The 55-year-old woman, a resident of the Pallikooda Street in Arni, was the mother of a Tablighi Jamaat attendee who tested negative for coronavirus. However, the woman tested positive for the virus on April 13 and was being administered treatment in the Tiruvannamalai government medical college hospital. "Her last two Covid-19 test results were negative and she was about to be discharged from the hospital in a day or two," the Dean of the hospital reportedly told a news agency. According to the report, Tiruvannamalai Collector KS Kandasamy mentioned, "The patient's blood pressure shot up in the morning and led to complications. However, she had recovered from the coronavirus as two tests were negative." A health department official reportedly further added, "The patient's locality was brought under the containment zone and over 95 samples were lifted in the zone including from those suffering from influenza like illnesses (ILI) and co-morbid diseases and pregnant women. The test results of all the samples turned out to be negative."
As on May 7, a total of 53045 cases have been registered across India and 1787 people have died. Tamil Nadu has reported 4827 cases and 35 deaths.
