A woman from Tamil Nadu posted a video on TikTok that showed her consuming poison. She died soon after.
The woman, identified as 24-year-old Anitha from Ariyalur, had been a frequent user of the video-sharing app TikTok. She was married to Pazhanivel, who is working in Singapore, and the couple has two children. As soon as Anitha discovered TikTok on her mobile, she got so addicted to the app that she even started disregarding her children’s needs and was focused on uploading videos and thrived on the number of likes she got for them. Her neighbours, who came to know of her carelessness, contacted her husband and informed them about it.
Pazhanivel called and warned her to quit TikTok and focus on her responsibilities, which angered Anitha very much. This led to her taking the drastic step of consuming poison and committing suicide, the video of which was uploaded by her on TikTok a few minutes before her death.
The “express yourself” video app ‘TikTok,’ that allows its users to share short clips of their talents/performances, gained traction in India recently, with at least 20 million people from the country currently using the application.
