Superstar Rajinikanth's 'Chandramukhi' is the biggest hit in his career which enjoyed a recordbreaking 801 days run at the Shanthi Theater in Chennai and more than 500 days in Coimbatore and Madurai areas. The 2005 psychological thriller was produced by Sivaji Productions and directed by P. Vasu with Rajini, Nayanthara, Jyothika, Vadivelu, Nasser and Prabhu in the ensemble cast.

Last year it was announced that Sun Pictures is producing the sequel to 'Chandramukhi' with P. Vasu returning as the director and Raghava Lawrence playing the lead. Reports suggested that Rajini will also play a powerful character and it was even suggested that Jyothika will reprise her role which she denied.

P. Vasu in his latest interview has made it clear that the story of 'Chandramukhi' has no connection with the original and none of the cast members will be returning. He further added that much as he wants to direct Rajini soon the Thalaivar is not playing any role in this venture. He further added that the pre-production work for the film is underway and it will go on floors soon.
