As Thalapathy Vijay proudly unveiled and hoisted the flag of his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam yesterday, a new controversy emerged. Social activist RTI Selvam filed a complaint with the Chennai Police Commissioner’s office, urging them to register a sedition case against Vijay due to certain elements in the flag that he deems contentious.
Selvam's complaint claims that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam flag incorporates an emblem of an elephant, which is a transport symbol of Kerala. He further alleged that the colours used in the flag are similar to those of Spain's national flag, which he believes disrespects India. Based on these assertions, Selvam called for a sedition case against Vijay. Also, he argued that the flag features symbols that violate election rules and laws.
In response to the complaint, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam released a statement, clarifying, "If the Election Commission seeks an explanation regarding the elephant controversy on our party flag, we are prepared to respond. Our flag features two elephants, a Vaagai flower, and stars. The party has the right to design its own flag. Therefore, if the Election Commission raises any questions, we will provide answers."
