NCP supremo and senior opposition leader Sharad Pawar seems to be looking at keeping the EVM issue alive. Nearly three weeks after his party received a drubbing in Maharashtra, Pawar today suggested that he will pursue the issue in the interest of democracy and law and order.
“The problem is not the with the EVM or VVPAT where the people vote, but with the machine with the electoral officer that is finally counted. We are going to go in depth of it now by discussing this with technicians and experts and opposition members in Delhi. If people realize that the vote they are casting is not going for their candidate of choice, they may keep calm now but they may take law into their hands in the future. We should not allow that to happen,” he said, sounding a warning bell.
It has to be seen if other opposition leaders will join Pawar on the issue. Before the results, Chandrababu Naidu and a few others did sing the ‘EVMs are tampered’ tune.
