Santhosh Narayanan condemns city’s poor management after suffering heavy floods

Santhosh Narayanan, one of the leading music composers, took to social media yesterday and condemned the city management for the massive Chennai floods due to Cyclone Michaung. We all know that Chennai is constantly suffering floods every year due to rainfall. Though so many lessons have been learnt, the city’s situation is almost the same every time.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Santhosh Narayanan wrote that his area has suffered floods and power cuts every time in the last 10 years though it is not a lake or low-lying area. He added that the water wasn’t drained even though there were plenty of open land and active ponds. He stated that rainwater and sewage get mixed with no medical assistance. The composer is trying his best to help people with his permanent boat and generator support and with their basic needs. The post is now going viral.

His post reads, “10+ continuous years of flooding with weeks of at least knee deep water and power cuts for atleast 100 hours in our locality during every year is our harsh reality. This year is setting new benchmarks already. Funnily enough, it is neither historically a lake nor a ‘low lying’ area. We have loads of open land and more active ponds than any other area in Chennai, suitably named Kolapakkam. Just pure negligence, mismanagement and greed has led to extreme dumping of rain water and sewage into just one irrigation canal that swells like a river every single time and has really hit our residents. Any ailment or medical emergency during these times is proving fatal. I am doing my best to reach out our people and support them with generator backup to fill over head tanks and help with rescue and other critical needs. I actually have a boat and several pumps permanently on stand-by for rescue efforts. Kudos to the spirit of the people of Chennai, there is so much resilience and positivity wherever I go. I hope there is an effort to a solution. I don’t have unreasonable expectations, but things can be a lot different than it is now. I really hope all of you who are affected are back to normalcy at the earliest.  #ChennaiFloods”
