Director Sundar C, has built up the reputation of being a hit maker especially in the comedy genre churning out two successful sequels to his 'Aranmanai' and one to his 'Kalakalappu'. He is currently in pre-production for 'Aranmanai 4' starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead produced by Lyca Productions on a grand scale.
A few years back Sundar C announced his dream project 'Sangamithra' a historical starring Shruti Haasan, Jayam Ravi and Arya in the lead. The project was launched at the Cannes Film Festival but Shruti Haasan walked out suddenly due to creative differences. Disha Patani was later added to the cast in the title role and when the shooting was about to start the production house underwent financial woes and the project was stalled.
Now the hot news is that Red Giant Movies has reportedly undertaken 'Sangamithra' production with A.R.Rahman's music. Sources say that impressed by the script the production house has allotted close to rupees five hundred crores budget.
The hot buzz is that Jayam Ravi has opted out of 'Sangamithra' due to his tight schedule and also that after 'Ponniyin Selvan 1 & 2' he did not want to do a historical immediately. It is said that Sundar C has approached Vishal to replace Ravi while Arya and Disha Patani will portray the characters that they initially signed for. The shooting is expected to start in October this year and further updates are awaited.
