Sandra Bullock’s longtime partner, Bryan Randall, died yesterday of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), his family announced on Aug. 5 after a three-year struggle with the disease. He never once considered sharing his journey with ALS publicly, and so his family honoured that request in keeping with privacy guidelines for people living with illnesses.
"We extend our gratitude to the dedicated doctors who guided us through this illness and to the incredible nurses that stood by us, often sacrificing theirs in order to support ours," his family shared. They requested privacy so they could grieve and accept the loss.
ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, affects motor neurons that control voluntary muscle movements. The disease remains progressive without a cure or an effective treatment to reverse its progression.
Sandra and Bryan kept their relationship secret from the public, but Sandra confessed to finding love with him on ‘Red Table Talk’ in December 2021. They have three children together, and Bryan is lauded as an example of his character and values.
As rumours spread for months of a possible split, neither confirmed those reports. Bryan’s family asks that donations in his name be made to the ALS Association and to Massachusetts General Hospital.
