The makers of Ramayana have unveiled a special solo poster featuring Arun Govil as King Dashrath, marking a fascinating new chapter for the veteran actor who remains deeply connected with one of the most iconic portrayals of Lord Ram in Indian television history.
The newly released poster offers audiences their first glimpse of Govil as King Dashrath, the King of Ayodhya and father of Lord Rama. His casting has generated considerable curiosity, particularly because generations of viewers continue to associate the actor with his legendary portrayal of Lord Ram.
Govil now returns to the world of the epic in an entirely different role. Instead of portraying Ram, the actor will bring the character of his father, Dashrath, to life. The casting creates a unique connection between the actor and the timeless story while adding an emotional layer to the film’s ensemble.
The makers unveiled the poster on social media with the caption: “He once brought Ram to life for a generation. Now, he returns to the world of Ramayana as the King of Ayodhya. Arun Govil as King Dashrath.”
The poster showcases Arun Govil in a regal avatar, with his costume and overall appearance reflecting the grandeur, authority and stature associated with the King of Ayodhya. For audiences who grew up watching him as Lord Ram, seeing Govil portray Dashrath is expected to be one of the film’s most intriguing casting choices.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana features an ensemble cast led by Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Rocking Star Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman.
The ambitious project is being mounted as a two-part epic, with Prime Focus Studios, led by Namit Malhotra, collaborating with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The film is being envisioned on a massive international scale, with cutting-edge visual effects and a global theatrical presentation.
Ramayana Part 1 is scheduled to release worldwide on November 5, 2026, while Part 2 is slated for a Diwali 2027 release. The epic will be released across Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, with an IMAX presentation planned.
Sony Pictures will handle the film’s global distribution outside India, while Dharma Productions will distribute the Hindi version in the Hindi-speaking market.
With the first look of Arun Govil as King Dashrath now revealed, anticipation surrounding Ramayana continues to build, particularly among audiences eager to see how the new epic brings the timeless story and its iconic characters to the big screen.
