To promote awareness about traffic rules and reduce road accidents, the Hyderabad Police organized the “Traffic Summit 2025.” Actor Sai Durgha Tej attended the event as the chief guest and donated ?5 lakh to the police department.
Speaking at the summit, the actor shared his personal experience, recalling the road accident he suffered on September 10, 2021. “I was in a coma for two weeks. The only reason I survived was because I wore a helmet. That’s why I am standing here today. I request everyone riding a bike to wear a helmet without fail,” he said.
He emphasized that family members must also ensure their loved ones wear helmets, adding, “Life is precious. If you want your loved ones to keep smiling, take precautions. Car drivers too should follow traffic rules and wear seat belts. Rules protect not only you but also your co-passengers and others on the road.”
The actor spoke emotionally about his recovery journey after the accident, revealing how he lost his speech, memory, and motor skills. “I even forgot how to hold a pen. It took a long time to reach this stage. I still practice riding my bike only in the empty space near my home, and always with a helmet,” he shared.
Durgha Tej also highlighted the importance of safety in cinema, noting that Tamil actor Ajith sets an example by wearing a helmet even during stunt sequences. He recalled his early struggles in the film industry, traveling by bike with his photos, and insisted that safety must always come first.
Praising the police force, he said, “At home, our family keeps us safe, but outside, it is the police who give us courage. They are the unsung heroes of society and deserve our salute. My grandfather too was in the police department.”
The actor further suggested that traffic violators should be given corrective punishments instead of just fines. “If people caught without helmets or under the influence are made to do community service, it will increase their sense of responsibility,” he recommended.
Sai Durgha Tej concluded his speech with a strong message: “Our life is our responsibility. Nobody else will take it. If we break rules, we alone will suffer.”
