Prabhas’ The RajaSaab Set for OTT Release on JioHotstar

Rebel Star Prabhas’ much-awaited film The RajaSaab is gearing up for its digital debut, with the horror-fantasy entertainer scheduled to stream on JioHotstar from February 6. The film arrives on OTT shortly after completing its theatrical run, giving audiences another chance to experience the big-ticket spectacle from the comfort of their homes.

Directed by Maruthi, The RajaSaab blends horror, fantasy, comedy, and emotion in a commercial format. Prabhas plays a young heir who finds himself trapped in a mysterious haunted mansion, where a series of supernatural events unfold, mixing humour with thrills. The film stars Malavika Mohanan as the female lead, while Sanjay Dutt appears in a crucial role, adding gravitas to the narrative.

Upon release, The RajaSaab opened to strong box-office numbers, collecting over ₹100 crore worldwide in its initial run. However, despite the impressive opening, the film wrapped up its theatrical journey below the ₹200 crore mark. Critical and audience responses were mixed—while fans applauded Prabhas’ screen presence, entertainment quotient, and visual scale, opinions were divided on the screenplay length and the overall effectiveness of the horror elements. Some viewers felt the scares did not fully deliver the intended impact, though star power and presentation ensured steady audience interest.

The film’s music, composed by Thaman S, further added to its commercial appeal. On OTT, The RajaSaab will be available in 4K resolution with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, promising an enhanced home-viewing experience. The film will also stream in multiple regional languages, expanding its reach across diverse audiences.

Meanwhile, the quick transition to digital platforms has once again sparked discussions about shrinking theatrical windows for big-budget films. While OTT releases ensure wider accessibility, a section of moviegoers believes that large-scale star-driven films deserve a longer run on the big screen. Regardless, the digital premiere of The RajaSaab has generated fresh excitement among fans who missed watching it in theatres.
