Superstar Rajnikanth, who was last seen on screen in dual avatars as Petta velan and Kaali in the Karthik Subbaraj direcotorial revenge drama Petta, has begun shooting for his 167th movie, the action packed entertainer Darbar directed by AR Murugadoss and produced by Lyca Productions.

The movie has Superstar playing a police officer after more than two decades, and the team is currently shooting in Mumbai. The movie has lady Superstar Nayanthara playing the female lead, while a Bollywood star is expected to play the villain. Anirudh scores the music while Santosh Sivan handles cinematography.

Now it has been revealed that director John Mahendran, son of the legendary director Mahendran, known for directing Thalapathy Vijay - Genelia starrer romantic entertainer Sachien is a part of story discussion of Darbar, and that the director has also acted in the movie. It must be noted that director Mahendran has delivered classics with Superstar and had also acted in his Petta.
