Year 2020 saw some major controversies crop over. If three of them were related to films, two of them involved film personalities and had little to do with any film. Rajamouli's 'RRR', RGV's 'Murder' and Prabhas' yet-to-be-shot 'Adipurush' were dragged into the rough terrain. Nandamuri Balakrishna and Vijay Deverakonda lost their tongue on two different occasions.

As the year comes to an end, we give you a snapshot of the controversies in brief:

Jr NTR's Muslim get-up in 'RRR':

When the first look of Jr NTR's character in 'Roudram Ranam Rudhiram' was out, there arose an unexpected controversy around it. Several Gond tribal representatives said that Komaram Bheem can't be depicted as a Muslim when he was anything but. They threatened to carry out protests against the movie if history is distorted. Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar joined the issue and said that theatres playing the SS Rajamouli movie will be attacked if Komaram Bheem is Islamized.

The Balakrishna-Chiranjeevi-Naga Babu row:

In the month of May, Nandamuri Balakrishna found fault with the way the Telugu film industry's meetings with the KCR government were being held over the resumption of film shootings in Telangana. He suggested that the likes of Chiranjeevi were currying favours with the government in the name of working for the industry. The 'Legend' actor also said that he was not kept in the loop about the developments in the industry.

Following Balayya's outbursts, Naga Babu hit out at him. "I demand that Balakrishna should withdraw his remarks.  He used a cuss word.  How can he lose his tongue like this?  If he doesn't take back his remarks, we will hit back.  He has insulted not just the film industry but also the Telangana government," Naga Babu said.

The 'Adipurush' controversy:

Weeks after Prabhas' 'Adipurush' was announced, Saif Ali Khan claimed that the film will portray Ravana's human side. Director Om Rau, besides the Bollywood actor, was criticized by online trolls. Saif retracted and apologized for his comments. The controversy proved for a fact that any tinkering with the Ramayana will not be acceptable to a section of Hindus.

Vijay Deverakonda supports dictatorship:

Vijay Deverakonda, in an interview, spoke against democracy and said that he supports benevolent dictatorship. "When you get on a plane, would all the passengers get to decide who is going to be the pilot? The most competent person is given the task of flying the plane," the 'Arjun Reddy' actor said, sparking a row. He suggested that only middle-class people who have the most at stake and educated people who don't get swung easily alone must have the right to vote.

RGV lands in 'Murder' trouble:

Ram Gopal Varma announced a film on the Maruthi Rao-Amrutha-Pranay saga. In no time, Amrutha's family went to the court and asked for the film's release to be stalled. RGV did a volte-face and said that the film has nothing to do with the Miriyalaguda honour killing incident. After a delay of several months, the film finally released in theatres on December 24 when theatres opened in the Telugu States.
