Ranas hardwork for Aranya & the inspiration behind the film

After 'Baahubali', 'Aranya' has demanded physical work of a high order from Rana Daggubati.  The actor has played the role of an elephant caretaker in this action film that will release on April 2.

What did it take for the 'Virataparvam' actor to get into shape for the much-awaited multi-lingual?  The 35-year-old actor, the makers say, had to follow a strict diet regimen to keep himself toned-up.  "He underwent extensive training to lose over 30 kgs of weight.  As you can see from the film's teaser, he has sported a heavy beard and grey hair look in 'Aranya'.  He has a tilted shoulder throughout the film," the makers say.

The look seen in the film took time to be finalized.  Talking about his homework for the film, Rana says, "Director Prabu Solomon sir wanted everything to be real and organic. It was very difficult for me to lose all the weight since I have always been a guy with a big physique. I had to undergo extensive physical training to get the lean look for this character. It has been a wonderful and learning experience for me."

Produced by Eros International, the adventure flick will release as 'Kaadan' in Tamil and 'Haathi Mere Saathi' in Hindi.  Starring also Vishnu Vishal, the film has Shriya Pilgaonkar and Zoya Hussain in interesting roles.

What inspired the film?

"The director got inspired by the phenomenon of humans encroaching the elephant corridors in Assam's Kaziranga.  As a conservation man, Rana's character dedicates most of his life living in the jungle with the sole purpose of protecting the animals inhabiting it.  As the story progresses, he becomes part of a conflict that goes into protecting the wildlife and ecosystem," the makers add.
