AR Rahman's London concert on July 8th recently snowballed into a social media controversy. Although the show was titled in Tamil language, it didn't stop the musician's non-Tamil fans from expecting Hindi-language performances from him. When they heard him sing Tamil numbers over and over again, some of them walked out, exercising their 'right to reject'.
It would have been fine had the issue ended there. But a tiny minority on Twitter resorted to language debate, with both sides even using the language of trolls.
ARR has finally responded to the controversy with grace and maturity. “We try our best. We try to be honest. I love the way how people have supported us all these years. Without them I am nothing. I am grateful to all of them,” he has said on the sidelines of an event in New York.
