Transgenders have lived a life of isolation and oppression throughout history and only in recent times the society has started treating them as human and some of them have grown in stature and have become achievers in various fields.

However a majority of the transgender community still suffer in their day to day existences and it is very difficult for them even to rent a house. Actor-director Raghava Lawrence known for his philanthropist activities has bought 1.25 ground of land in Meenjur near Chennai and has planned to build houses on it. The houses will then be donated to transgenders. It is worth mentioning that Raghava Lawrence had a transgender character as the pivotal element in his 'Kanchana 2' in which Sarathkumar played the title role which glorified the third gender.

Raghava Lawrence's next commercial entertainer 'Kanchana 3' produced in association with Sun Pictures is hitting the screens worldwide on April 19th. The film has Oviya, Vedhika, Devadarshini, Kovai Sarala and Sriman in the cast.
