A group of twenty thieves broke into a California branch of PNG Jewellers, which is based in Pune, and stole a lot of jewelry. A great deal of it was stolen.
Watch video shows a big gang of masked people breaking display cases with sledgehammers and then escaping in many cars from the Sunnyvale business. Every aspect of the theft happened quickly.
According to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (DPS), on June 12 (local time), the robbery happened at 1:27 p.m. "Before police arrived, the suspects had left in many cars. Pursuits resulted from attempts by officers to halt two suspect cars," the DPS said.
The crooks threw stolen jewelry out of one car during the chase. At last, they gave up on a highway and tried to flee on foot. Nevertheless, the five suspects were captured by law authorities, who charged them with armed robbery, felony vehicle evasion, resisting arrest, burglary, conspiracy, vandalism, possession of burglary equipment, and unfulfilled warrants. While the whole worth of the stolen jewelry is yet unknown, some of it has been found.
"An investigation is still ongoing into this case. We are looking into possible connections to another jewelry store heist in Sunnyvale last May that involved several individuals," an official said.
California officials promised swift action in reaction to the crime when they met with the local Indian-American community on Friday following the occurrence.
