It is well-known that the legendary director Mani Ratnam accomplished Tamil cinema's long-time dream by making a live-action 'Ponniyin Selvan' saga. The epic two-part film franchise is the official adaptation of one of the most famous novels of all time by author Kalki.

Ponniyin Selvan part 1 was released in theatres in September 2022 and emerged as one of the highest-grossing films in Kollywood. Now, the hot news is that the movie team flew to Hong Kong for the prestigious 16th Asian Film Awards at the Busan International Film Festival to be held on March 12. PS-1 is nominated under six categories at the magnum opus event.

GKM Tamilkumaran of Lyca Productions, Siva Anand of Madras Talkies, cinematographer Ravi Varman and editor Sreekar Prasad went to Hong Kong for the show. The categories under which Ponniyin Selvan 1 was nominated are Best Film - PS 1, Best Original Music -AR Rahman, Best Cinematography - Ravi Varman, Best Editing - Sreekar Prasad, Best Production Design - Thota Tharani and Best Costume Designer - Eka Lakhani.

On the other hand, Ponniyin Selvan 2 is gearing up for a grand theatrical release on April 28. Ponniyin Selvan stars Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Ashwin, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Sobhita Dhulipala, Vikram Prabhu and others.
