Thoothukudi Central Police Station Chief Constable Thiraviyarathinaraj has demanded a bribe from Thoothukudi Karthi fan club chairman Venkatesh and executives Venkatagodi and Seenivas for pasting a poster related to the release of ‘Thozha’ starring actor Karthi.
The three who refused to do so were taken to the police station, where they were beaten and severely beaten by police inspector Suresh Kumar, assistant inspector Ravi Kumar and chief constable Thiraviya Rathinaraj.Gavaskar, Venkatesh’s brother’s lawyer, had lodged a complaint with the Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission on March 25, 2016. After six years, strict action has been taken against the 3 policemen who attacked the fans who refused to pay a bribe for pasting the Karthi movie poster.
Three policemen have been sentenced to six years in prison for attacking a fan who refused to pay a bribe for pasting a Karthi starrer poster in 2016. The State Human Rights Commission has issued an order imposing a fine of 2 lakh each on the police. The commission has ordered criminal and departmental action against the police.
The Tamil-Telugu bilingual "Thozha", starring actor Akkineni Nagarjuna and Karthi was adapted from the French drama "The Incredibles" and grossed over Rs 20 crore in the first four days of its theatrical release. Directed by Vamsi Padipally the film is about the relationship between a handicapped millionaire and his caretaker.
