The iconic cult-classic Shiva is all set for a grand re-release in a never-before-seen avatar. Originally released in 1989, the film was produced by Annapurna Studios under the banner of Akkineni Venkat and Surendra Yarlagadda. Widely regarded as one of the greatest Indian films of all time, Shiva redefined Indian cinema and marked a new era — the “Before Shiva” and “After Shiva” periods.
Sharing his thoughts on the re-release, Nagarjuna said, “My father always believed cinema had the power to live beyond generations, and Shiva was one such film. Bringing it back to the big screen on 14th November in a completely new avatar of 4K Dolby Atmos is a tribute to his dream of keeping stories alive forever.”
Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, Shiva will return to theatres in 4K resolution with immersive Dolby Atmos sound, making it the first Indian re-released film to receive such a treatment. The film’s sound, originally in mono, has been meticulously remastered using advanced AI technologies to deliver a groundbreaking experience for today’s audiences.
Highlighting the technical brilliance, RGV said, “I can’t wait for people to watch the film to have a completely new experience due to the enhanced sound never experienced before.”
More than three decades since its release, Shiva continues to inspire filmmakers and audiences alike. Its fearless storytelling, iconic sound design, and revolutionary style remain unmatched. With this re-release, viewers will not only relive its brilliance but also experience it like never before.
