Indian cricket team's head coach Ravi Shastri has stated in a recent interview that former skipper MS Dhoni may end his ODI career soon.

Since India's semi-final exit from the 2019 World Cup, Dhoni has not played international cricket and refrained from answering questions regarding the same as well. Ravi Shastri, in a recent interview with a news agency, mentioned that Dhoni will not be imposing himself on the team, while he is still in contention for a place in the squad in the upcoming ICC World T20. Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson are two other players who will be fighting for the wicket-keeper spot.

Ravi Shastri has reportedly stated, "We had a conversation but that's between me and MS, that's in the dressing room. What I feel is that people must respect is he's played non-stop in all formats of the game for a while. He's finished playing Test match, and in all probability, he'll finish one-day cricket. At his age, probably the only format he'll want to play is T20 cricket which means he'll have to start playing again, get back into the grooves because he's going to play in the IPL and see how his body reacts."

"One thing about Dhoni I'll tell you. He will never impose himself on the team, or even himself. If he feels when he comes back that something is not right, just like he quit Test cricket, which was like a bolt out of the blue. And if Dhoni has a stellar show in the IPL and he puts himself into the contention then why not," he further added.
