In a hard-hitting comment on the detractors of his much-touted ‘Bullet Train’ project linking Mumbai and Ahmedabad which was kicked off a month ago by him and his Japanese counterpart, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked those who opposed this project to get used to travelling by ‘bullock-driven carts’.

Modi’s remarks are clearly intended at the Congress Party which had always been critical of the project. Modi’s comments came during the course of his speech at an election meeting held in Amodh on the banks of River Narmada in Gujarat which is to vote in two phases this Saturday (09th) and next Thursday (14th) to elect a new Legislative Assembly.

“Centre is implementing the construction of the ‘Bullet Train’ project linking Mumbai and Ahmedabad with cooperation and collaboration of Japan. We want to provide huge employment opportunities to the local people by putting this project in place; for some reasons, the Congress is opposed to the project. We provide the raw material and take only the technical know-how from Japan and there is nothing wrong in it.

“The project could be a huge boost to the trade and industry sector in Gujarat and the surrounding places. Congress tried to put this project in place several years back but abandoned it as it felt that the cost was ‘too much’. It opposes this project now only for the sake of opposing. I don’t bother about those who oppose the project; if they don’t want to travel by ‘Bullet Train’, let them travel by bullock-carts,” he said.
