Marokkasari: First Indian Film Shot at Gurudongmar Lake Near Tibet Border, Nears Release

Marokkasari is an upcoming Telugu feel-good romantic drama produced by B. Chandrakanth Reddy under the banner CK Film Makers. The film features Naresh Agastya and Sanjana Sarathy in the lead roles and is written and directed by Nithin Lingutla.

Positioned as a heartfelt love story with a strong emotional core, Marokkasari is being made as a pan-South Indian release, with plans to hit screens across all major South Indian languages, aiming to connect with audiences beyond linguistic boundaries.

Shot Across Extreme and Visually Stunning Locations

Breaking away from conventional filmmaking, the makers of Marokkasari opted for challenging yet visually breathtaking locations to maintain authenticity and emotional depth. The film was extensively shot across the lush landscapes of Kerala, while its most ambitious schedule took place at extreme high-altitude locations near the Tibet border.

Notably, Marokkasari has created history by becoming the first Indian film to be shot at Gurudongmar Lake in Sikkim, one of the highest lakes in the world. Situated at an altitude of approximately 5,430 metres (17,800 feet) above sea level, Gurudongmar Lake presented extraordinary logistical and physical challenges. The shoot was carried out under special Armed Forces permissions in an environment marked by extremely low oxygen levels, severe cold, limited shooting windows, and unpredictable weather conditions.

Overcoming Logistical and Physical Challenges

The production team faced multiple hurdles, including difficult terrain, restricted transportation access, delays in equipment movement, complex local permissions, communication limitations, power constraints, and rapidly changing climatic conditions. Despite these challenges, the team ensured that the health, safety, and morale of the cast and crew remained a top priority throughout the schedule.

The makers have especially acknowledged the efforts of Production Head Anudeep Paduru, whose coordination and execution played a crucial role in successfully completing the demanding shoot under extreme conditions.

Final Stages of Post-Production

Currently, Marokkasari is in the final stages of Digital Intermediate (DI) at the prestigious Annapurna Studios, Hyderabad, where final colour grading and visual finishing are underway to achieve the film’s intended cinematic tone.

The film boasts a strong technical team, with Rohit Bachu handling cinematography, Chota K. Prasad overseeing editing, and Bharath Manchiraju composing the music, all working closely with director Nithin Lingutla.

Producer Speaks

During post-production, producer Chandrakanth Reddy interacted with the media and reflected on the journey of mounting a film of this scale.

“Every challenge we faced was a conscious decision taken to serve the story with honesty and authenticity,” — B. Chandrakanth Reddy, Producer, CK Film Makers

With post-production nearing completion, Marokkasari is expected to announce its release date soon. The film has already generated curiosity for its ambitious visuals, unique locations, and commitment to storytelling authenticity.
