Journalist Lakshmi Subramanian of ‘The Week’ magazine has responded to Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit’s letter tendering apology for patting her cheeks during a press-meet at Raj Bhawan on Tuesday by stating that though she accepted the Governor’s apology, she wasn’t utterly convinced with his explanation for patting.
Governor Purohit met a group of newspersons from print and televisions media inside the Raj Bhawan complex on Tuesday when the controversy erupted. While responding to a specific query from the bespectacled Lakshmi, Purohit patted her cheeks which the woman journalist hardly expected as a reply.
In his letter addressed to Lakshmi, the Governor has tendered sincere apologies if his act (of patting cheeks) had offended Lakshmi’s sentiments. “I did so only because I considered as my grand-daughter,” he said in a brief letter addressed to the journalist. Mediamen in the city expressed their shock at Governor’s letter as such an ‘apology’ letter from a Governor wasn’t something they had come across in the past.
Meanwhile, responding on her Twitter account to the Governor’s apology letter, Lakshmi said “Your Excellency….I accept your apology even though I’m not (utterly) convinced about your contention that you did it (patting the cheeks) to appreciate a question I asked…”
