Jio Hotstar Begins Censoring International Content; Draws Criticisim

Jio Hotstar was launched in a grand manner. When the merger happened, there are a lot of doubts and inhibitions about the content that the platform will offer to the audiences. However, the platform has been launched with diverse content from multiple channels. Jio Hotstar is also the place now for the International content.

But, surprisingly, the team at Jio Hotstar began censoring content of the International projects. Suiting the Indian sensibilities and Indian censorship rules, the team is doing censor for all the major projects which is drawing the criticism from the general audiences.

India’s Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has issued an advisory to online curated content publishers (OTT platforms) and self-regulatory Bodies of OTT platforms, to ensure strict adherence to India’s laws and the Code of Ethics prescribed in the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media, Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

So, in order to follow the ethical codes and laws of the land, Jio Hotstar is working on removing the obscene, and vulgar content from multiple projects that the platform currently has.
