India's two-time Olympic medal winning wrestler Sushil Kumar was arrested on Sunday over alleged involvement in the murder of a fellow wrestler, identified as 23-year-old Sagar Rana, in Delhi. The police managed to arrest Sushil Kumar after he was absconding for nearly 20 days.
Sushil Kumar, along with his associates, assaulted the 23-year-old Sagar Rana and two of his friends, who all had to be hospitalized. Sagar Rana later succumbed to his injuries. "A team of Special Cell led by Inspector Shivkumar, Inspector Karambir and supervised by ACP Attar Singh has arrested Sushil Kumar and Ajay from Mundka area of Delhi in connection with the killing of 23-year-old Sagar Rana at Chhatrasal Stadium. We have been told verbally that the case will be further investigated by the team of the Crime Branch. But the case will be officially handed over to us latest by tomorrow (Monday)," the police were reportedly quoted as saying.
Speaking about the probable motive behind the murder, the police added that a video of the incident was recorded to terrorise the wrestling circuit in the city. "Sushil had asked (his friend) Prince to make that video. He and his associates thrashed the victims like animals. He wanted to establish his fear in the wrestling community," the police official reportedly informed the court.
