The students of St Francis Women’s College have secured a victory after protesting the imposition of dress code by the college management. Last month, the students were told to wear knee-length kurtas mandatorily. This was seen by a number of students as a form of moral policing.
“We tried to impress upon the management that the dress code reflects a patriarchal mindset. Despite our best efforts, the management didn’t budge,” a student has been quoted as saying. Protestors today held up messages like ‘We have skipped the lessons to teach you one”.
Earlier today, the college principal finally took a decision to revoke the dress code. “It’s an important victory against a particular mindset. Why are women blamed for wearing short clothes? If men get wrong thoughts because of a girl’s clothes, how can the latter be blamed? The girls of the college have proved their mettle by sticking to their guns,” a Facebook comment says.
