The Government of India on Friday approved a nasal vaccine for Covid-19. ANI quoted official sources as saying that the vaccine, made by Bharat Biotech, will be used as a heterologous booster. The vaccine has already been included in the national vaccine program.
To begin with, the vaccine will be made available first in private hospitals. In due course of time, its inventories and availability will be reflected by the CoWIN app. Those above the age of 18 are eligible to receive the vaccine.
“The needle-less nasal vaccination was approved by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It can be administered as a booster dosage,” reports stated. The manufacturer claimed that the intranasal vaccine promotes a wide immune response and reports are hoping that the vaccine will prevent COVID-19 transmission as well as infection.
It has to be seen how fast the nasal vaccine will be used by adults. While Covid-19 vaccination is near total in India, the precaution shot or booster shot’s coverage is less than 30%.
