The veteran actor's health took a critical turn in November, leading to his admission to MIOT Hospital in Chennai. Persistent cough and throat pain prompted a 14-day observation under the vigilant care of medical professionals. Despite the best efforts, Captain Vijayakanth's condition deteriorated, compelling his placement on ventilator support due to severe breathing difficulties. The official announcement by the DMDK on X confirmed the loss of this prominent leader.

Before entering the political arena, Vijayakanth enjoyed an illustrious career in Tamil cinema, earning the moniker "Puratchi Kalingar" for his portrayal of patriotic and heroic characters. His cinematic journey, which began as an antagonist in the 1979 film "Inikkum Ilamai," showcased his versatility and prowess.
