Dhanush’s Next Film (D55) OTT Rights Sold to Netflix Even Before Shooting Begins!

Dhanush is set to reunite with Amaran director Rajkumar Periasamy for his milestone 55th film, tentatively referred to as D55. In a major development, the OTT rights for this highly anticipated project have already been acquired by Netflix at a substantial price—even before filming has commenced or any official announcements regarding shoot dates, first look, or full cast have been made.

The film was initially planned under Gopuram Films, but the production house stepped away from the project. It is now being jointly produced by Dhanush‘s Wunderbar Studios and reportedly in collaboration with Kamal Haasan’s Rajkamal Films International (RKFI), on a grand scale. Casting and technical team finalization are currently underway.

Key highlights of the project:

• Mammootty has been confirmed (or is strongly in talks, per reports) for a pivotal role. This marks the legendary Malayalam actor’s return to Tamil cinema after a long hiatus, adding massive star power.
• Sai Pallavi is expected to play the female lead, reuniting with director Rajkumar Periasamy after their successful collaboration in Amaran.
• Music will be composed by G.V. Prakash Kumar, promising a powerful soundtrack.

This acquisition is part of Netflix’s recently unveiled “Netflix Pandigai 2026” slate announced during Pongal/Sankranthi (January 2026), which includes several major Tamil films like Suriya’s projects, Karthi’s Marshal, and more. These titles will stream on Netflix post-theatrical release in multiple languages including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.

With no official shoot start date announced yet, the early OTT deal reflects immense confidence in the film’s potential—thanks to the proven Dhanush-Rajkumar Periasamy combo from Amaran, the addition of Mammootty, and the high production values.
