Director Mari Selvaraj, who had made his debut in 2017 with the movie Pariyerum Perumal is now directing his second movie Karnan, which has Dhanush playing the lead role. Produced by Kalaipuli S Thaanu, Karnan is Dhanush's 41st movie.

Karnan team had been shooting in Tirunelveli, and today, Dhanush had posted a photo from the shoot and updated that 90% of the shoot has been completed. Dhanush tweeted "That’s a wrap for karnan second schedule. 90 percent of the shoot completed."

Karnan also stars Malayalam heroine Rajisha Vijayan who makes her Tamil debut, Lal, Azhagam Perumal, Yogi Babu, Gouri G Kishan, Lakshmipriyaa Chandramouli, Natarajan Subramaniam and is based on real incidents. Karnan has music by Santosh Narayanan.
