DCP on charges against Jani master

Choreographer Jani Master, also known as Shaik Jani Basha, has been arrested by the Cyberabad police in Bengaluru in connection with charges under IPC sections 376(2)(n), 506, and 323, along with a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He faces allegations of sexual assault and harassment. The arrest follows a five-day search operation by four special police teams, which eventually located Jani Master in a hotel in Bengaluru. He was apprehended and is currently being transported to Hyderabad.

The charges against him stem from a complaint filed by a victim who alleged that Jani Master raped and assaulted her in 2020 during a film shoot in Mumbai. The victim claimed that the choreographer repeatedly harassed her with sexual demands, threatening to hinder her career if she did not comply. She further accused him of pressuring her to marry him. The Narsingi police re-registered the case under Cr.No. 1371/2024 after recording the victim's statement. It was later revealed that the victim was a minor at the time of the alleged offence, prompting the inclusion of additional charges under Section 5(l) r/w 6 of the POCSO Act.

The police are expected to present Jani Master in court and seek his custody for further investigation. Given the severity of the POCSO charges, the possibility of bail is considered unlikely. The victim had also approached the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce, reporting workplace harassment. A panel led by actress Jhansi conducted an internal investigation, assuring that a complete report would be submitted within 90 days, with the victim's identity kept confidential.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajendranagar Zone, Ch. Srinivas Rao, confirmed the arrest and outlined the charges in the FIR. A transit warrant was obtained after the accused was presented in a local court in Goa, and he will now be produced before the Hyderabad court.
