Rumours surrounding Kannada star Darshan Thoogudeepa attempting suicide in prison have now been officially dismissed by Karnataka prison authorities.
Over the past few hours, several reports and social media posts claimed that the actor had allegedly attempted to take his own life while lodged in Bengaluru jail in connection with the high-profile Renukaswamy murder case. However, prison officials have now clarified that the claims are entirely false.
Karnataka Director-General of Prisons and Correctional Services Alok Kumar reportedly termed the rumours “completely baseless” and confirmed that no such incident had occurred inside the prison premises. Officials further stated that Darshan is safe and doing fine in jail.
The actor remains in judicial custody in connection with the 2024 murder case of Renukaswamy, who was reportedly a fan of Darshan. According to investigators, Renukaswamy was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by individuals said to be linked to the actor after he reportedly sent objectionable messages to Darshan’s longtime associate Pavithra Gowda.
The case has continued to attract significant attention across Karnataka and the film industry ever since the allegations surfaced. Meanwhile, authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter.
