In some positive news to begin the day, a Victorian great-great-grandmother aged 94 has fought a brave battle defying all odds and has survived the deadly coronavirus.
The Australian woman named Maureen Appleby, left the Austin Hospital on Wednesday and was given a warm sendoff by the Hospital staff, nurses who formed a guard of honour and celebrated her recovery.
Maureen Appleby said “I fought it back, I got there," as she was wheeled out of the hospital by her son John. Maureen was diagnosed with COVID-19 before a week after being admitted in the hospital for broken ribs. Her son John also got recovered from COVID-19 which he contracted through community transmission.
How’s this send off for 94yo Maureen. She is being released from The Austin after fighting off COVID-19. She spent a week on the ward, but is finally well enough to be released today #7newsmelb pic.twitter.com/iAwqaWfwda
