Cognizant to lay off 7000 employees, redeploy 5000 more

Cognizant has decided to lay off about 5000 to 7000 mid-to senior level employees in the organization. It will exit the content moderation business, which will impact about 6000 jobs.  About 5000 more will be redeployed after reskilling.

“In an analyst call, the company’s management announced that the firm will be cutting jobs to boost revenue. The company will focus more on investment in sales and try to uplift the digital growth,” says ‘The Logical Indian’.

Why is the company exiting content moderation segment?  Carroline Orr says, “Cognizant, which moderates content for Facebook, is getting out of the business after multiple investigations revealing poor working conditions and mistreatment that led to employees being diagnosed with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) after prolonged exposure to graphic content”.
