Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the Sankara Eye Super Speciality Centre at Pedakakani, Guntur, on Saturday and lauded the humanitarian services of the Sankara Eye Foundation, describing it as an institution that blends service with spirituality.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Naidu said he felt privileged to take part in the event and commended the foundation’s enduring commitment to service, knowledge, and righteousness — the same principles laid down by Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya, who established the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham in Tamil Nadu for the protection and propagation of Sanatana Dharma.
“From then till now, the Peetham has continued its noble efforts for the preservation of Hindu dharma,” the Chief Minister remarked.
Reiterating the Peetham’s core belief that serving humanity is serving God (Madhava Seva), Mr. Naidu said the network of Sankara Eye Hospitals, which provides free medical services to the poor, stands as a beacon of compassion and service. He expressed happiness that the new super speciality centre in Guntur would offer world-class facilities and help restore vision to thousands of underprivileged people across Andhra Pradesh.
Mr. Naidu also expressed his willingness to participate in the golden jubilee celebrations of Sankara Eye Hospitals, which have built and managed 14 eye hospitals across 10 States over the last five decades. So far, the foundation has performed over 3 million free eye surgeries and conducted vision screening for 7 million children, milestones that the Chief Minister described as extraordinary achievements.
Highlighting the foundation’s efficiency, he noted that around 750 free eye surgeries are performed every day, a record unmatched by any other institution in the world.
Mr. Naidu also commended the foundation’s ‘Rainbow’ programme for prioritising children’s eye health, and its ‘Gift of Vision’ rural outreach initiative, which has organised over 32,000 free eye camps across India.
The Chief Minister concluded by congratulating the organisation for its service-driven mission and reaffirmed his government’s support for initiatives that bring affordable, quality healthcare to the people of Andhra Pradesh.
