Vijay Antony’s ‘Vanda Devullu’ Heads to ZEE5; Emotional Family Drama to Stream This August

On the occasion of Vijay Antony’s birthday, Telugu ZEE5 has officially announced the digital premiere of Vanda Devullu, an emotional family drama inspired by true events. After receiving a positive response during its theatrical run, the film is now set to make its OTT debut on ZEE5 this August. The streaming platform is expected to announce the exact premiere date soon.

The announcement comes on the back of the successful OTT run of Parimala & Co., which became a popular choice among family audiences after premiering on ZEE5. Starring Jayaram and Urvashi, the film impressed viewers with its light-hearted humour and relatable family moments, strengthening the platform’s focus on bringing rooted family entertainers to digital audiences.

Unlike Parimala & Co., Vanda Devullu takes a deeply emotional route. Inspired by true incidents, the film follows the journey of a widowed mother who has dedicated her entire life to raising her son and caring for her family. When she decides to remarry in her mid-forties in search of companionship, her decision is met with opposition from relatives, villagers and society, which questions her right to pursue happiness.

The heart of the film lies in the touching bond between the mother and her son. Instead of asking his mother to continue sacrificing her dreams, the son stands firmly by her side and supports her decision to begin a new chapter in life. Through this relationship, the film delivers a powerful message about love, acceptance, second chances and breaking societal stereotypes.

Beyond the story of one woman, Vanda Devullu explores themes of motherhood, marriage, sacrifice, companionship and the expectations society places on women. Its relatable emotions and heartfelt performances earned appreciation during its theatrical release, with strong word of mouth helping the film find a wider audience.

Speaking about the acquisition, Llyod C Xavier, SVP – Marketing South and Business Head for Tamil & Malayalam at ZEE5, said the platform continues to focus on stories that entertain while also reflecting changing social realities. He added that the response to Parimala & Co. reaffirmed audiences’ love for authentic family dramas, and Vanda Devullu is another meaningful addition to ZEE5’s growing content library.

Vanda Devullu will stream exclusively on ZEE5 in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam this August. The official premiere date is expected to be announced shortly.
