The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has proved to be progressive by recognizing a constable, who joined the Force as a woman, as male`. The constable wanted to marry a woman colleague and decided to a undergo sex change operation due to the anti-same-sex marriage laws in the country.
The officer said he always felt like a man and had to struggle with bureaucracy for nearly 4 years, during which he underwent physical tests that only male officers are subjected to, in order to reach where he is now. He said he would not have undergone the operation if it had not been for Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, an archaic and regressive law that is a remnant of the country`s colonial past.
