Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju has said that the Centre was planning to modernize Chennai Airport even more to ensure that it remains on par with the best Airports in the world.
Speaking to newsmen in Saturday at Chennai Airport, Raju said that modernizing and updating the Airport’s all facilities assumed utmost significance as Chennai was not only the capital of Tamil Nadu but was one of the most prominent cities in India. “Efforts would be made to set up advanced Runway, akin to the one in Mumbai Airport, in Chennai in the days to come,” he hinted.
“The terminals at the Airport would be connected and modernized,” he said. On another query about the frequent breaking of glass ceilings inside the Airport, Raju observed that this incident has come down to a great extent in the recent past in view of the timely action taken by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
He also urged State Governments across the country to speed-up the work of allotting lands for Airports to come up in their territories. “We can only construct Airports but the land has to be allotted by the States for construction/expansion,” he concluded.
