A legendary vintage Tamil actress, who acted with multiple generation stars from MGR, Sivaji to current actor Karthi, was recently bestowed with the prestigious Padma Shri Award. She is now the recipient of India's fourth-highest civilian award Padma Shri.
The Central Government has just announced Padma Shri Award for the veteran actress Sowcar Janaki. Following this, the fans and film fraternity are heaping wishes for the yesteryear star. She has appeared in over 450 films, predominantly in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada languages. Janaki also performed on stage in over 3000 shows and was a radio artist during her earlier years.
Sowcar Janaki made her acting debut in the Telugu film 'Shavukaru' and debuted in Tamil with Sivaji Ganesan's 'Valayapathy'. Then, she starred with many leading actors including MGR, Shivaji, Gemini Ganesan and was recently seen in Karthi starrer 'Thambi' and Santhanam starrer 'Biskoth'.
Now, Sowcar Janaki is awarded the Padma Shri as a recognition of her service to the arts. Following this, the Tamil film industry has been extending its congratulations to the 90-year-old actress. In addition, the Padma Shri is announced for 7 people from Tamil Nadu including sculptor Balasubramaniam, Damodaran, Pallesh Pajantri, Veerasamy Seshaiya and Muthu Kannammal.
