A 45-year-old man has been arrested after he forcefully hung his son off a ceiling fan at their residence in Bengaluru. The incident was recorded by his 17-year-old daughter on her phone.

The accused, identified as Suresh Babu, reportedly told the police that his family ran a chit fund scheme and that the entire family, including his wife and teenage daughter, had decided to commit suicide in order to escape heavy debt. In the disturbing video, the accused is seen tying a bed sheet around the neck of his 12-year-old son and loosens the grip until the boy becomes motionless. The daughter, who recorded the entire incident until she was stopped by her mother, stated to the police that her father first killed the boy, after which he forcefully made her mother commit suicide as well.

In his statement to the police, however, the man had denied killing either of them, claiming that it was his wife who killed their son and then committed suicide. The video recorded by his teenage girl proved him guilty. The police have arrested the accused and charged him with murder and abetment to suicide.
